How to troubleshoot a Fanuc Spindle Drive Alarm 01 Code

If a FANUC Alarm 01 Code occurs during a cutting operation:

Inspect the cooling condition of the spindle motor.

  • If the cooling fan is not operating, check the power supply to the fan. If the power supply is functioning, the fan may be faulty and needs to be replaced. Technicians at CIT Automation Equipment can assist with diagnosing, repairing, or replacing the cooling fan on your spindle drive.
  • If your spindle motor uses a liquid-cooling system, inspect the coolant system for possible issues.
  • Ensure the ambient temperature around the spindle motor remains within the specified operating range for your machine.

Check the short-time duty rating of the spindle drive.
If the alarm is triggered while the load meter is fluctuating within a limited range, it indicates that the short-time rated operation has been exceeded, and the machine load should be reduced.

If the spindle drive issues an Alarm 01 under light load conditions:

Ensure that the acceleration and deceleration frequency does not exceed the continuous rated capacity of the drive.

Review the parameter settings of the spindle motor. Make sure all motor-specific parameters are correctly applied and compatible with your application.

If Alarm 01 is triggered when the motor temperature is low:

  • The feedback cable from the spindle motor may be defective. Confirm that the CN2 cable is securely connected to the CN2 connector. If the cable is properly connected but the alarm still appears at low temperatures, the feedback cable should be replaced.
  • Examine the control PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and the spindle amplifier for any malfunctions. If either is found to be faulty, CIT Automation Equipment can provide expert repair or replacement to restore your CNC machine to normal operation.
  • Check the internal thermostat of the spindle motor. If the thermostat is damaged or malfunctioning, the motor may require a complete replacement.
