What Is Fanuc AC Serial Spindle Drive Alarm 33?
Fanuc Alarm 33 occurs when the CNC system detects that the DC voltage supplied to the top board of the spindle drive is insufficient. This can indicate issues within the drive’s power supply circuit.
Fanuc Spindle Drive Alarm 33 – Message Breakdown:
Alarm Code | Message | Descripción |
---|---|---|
33 | Insufficient DC link section charging | Triggered when the amplifier’s magnetic contactor is turned on, but the DC voltage is too low. |

How to Troubleshoot Fanuc Spindle Drive Alarm 33
Step 1 – Inspect Jumpers
Check all internal jumpers on the spindle drive PCB, especially the S5 jumper, for correct placement.
Step 2 – Power On Procedure
Apply three-phase input power and turn on the control system.
Step 3 – Voltage Test on A16B-2201-0440 PCB
Once the drive powers up and the LED display is visible:
- Measure voltage from VDC and SDC test pins to the ZERO volt pin.
- These test pins are located on the A16B-2201-0440 PCB.
- Readings should be close to +3 VDC.
Step 4 – Voltage Test on A20B-2000-0220 PCB
If VDC or SDC readings are not near 3 VDC:
- Measure voltage between the B+ and B- test pins on the A20B-2000-0220 PCB.
- The reading should be 300 VDC.
- Ensure the internal contactor is engaging during this process.
Fanuc Alarm 33 Diagnosis
Diagnosis A – Alarm Circuitry Issue
If B+ and B- measure 300 VDC, the issue may lie in the drive’s alarm detection circuit. This could be a false alarm.
Confirm that the AC input voltage (leg-to-leg and leg-to-ground) is within the correct range.
Diagnosis B – False Alarm from Power Circuit
If B+ and B- also measure 300 VDC, double-check the integrity of the drive’s input voltage and grounding.
Again, this may indicate an erroneous Alarm 33 generated by a faulty PCB or sensor.
